How do I know when the RAN score is below average?

If the RAN score is below average the result will be flagged in the Lexplore Results Portal on the pupil profile and the specific assessment.

Research indicates that Rapid Automatic Naming (RAN) has a strong correlation with reading ability. It’s therefore important to know if the RAN result from an assessment is below average. More about RAN: What is a RAN test?

You will see this information on the pupil profile. Click on a pupil who has just completed a RAN test. Look at the result. If there is a “red flag” next to the RAN score then the pupil is performing below the average, and it may indicate underlying difficulties.  If the RAN test result is displayed without a flag, the result is considered to be within an acceptable range.
