Lexplore Launches Online Reading Assessment with AI and Eye Tracking on International Literacy Day

Democratising reading development and empowering schools worldwide with objective data and actionable insights.

Stockholm, September 8, 2025

On International Literacy Day, Swedish EdTech company Lexplore unveils its new Online Reading Assessment with AI and Eye Tracking, a breakthrough that makes systematic reading development accessible to every school and every student, by just using a webcam.

Reading proficiency is the foundation of learning and participation in society. Yet international studies such as PIRLS and PISA show worrying declines and widening gaps in literacy, leaving millions of children at risk of falling behind.

Schools that work systematically with Lexplore’s assessments see clear impact. Compared to others, the students average reading ability improve by:

      • 5 percentile points in the first year
      • 10 percentile points by the third year

By analysing how students process text in real time using eye tracking, the Lexplore assessment not only identifies difficulties but also captures natural reading progress across the school year. This unique approach allows schools to act early, track growth, and provide equitable support to every learner.

The new online solution eliminates the need for hardware, ensuring that reliable and objective reading assessment can reach classrooms worldwide.

Unlike traditional tests, Lexplore delivers more than an assessment. Its AI-powered technology provides instant, research-based insights that teachers can act on immediately in the classroom. With clear guidance on which students need support or extra challenge, schools can move beyond identifying problems to actually closing gaps and raising achievement.

In 2021, Lexplore acquired the popular Norwegian reading platform Lesemester. Together, the products now form a powerful reading service that is designed to motivate pupils, empower teachers, and create impact on reading journeys all over the world. Building on this foundation, Lexplore now offers a unique service that combines assessment with personalised book recommendations and reading exercises based on each student's result.

“Our mission has always been to make the world a better place, one reader at a time. With this launch, we will bring teachers and parents the tools they need to both quickly assess and take action. It’s about giving every child an equal chance — and giving educators real control over reading development in their classrooms,” says Anna Kraft, CEO of Lexplore.

The online reading assessment will be available September 8, with rollout across English-speaking markets during autumn 2025.
