Comprehension questions during assessment: Mark correct or incorrect

During the assessment the examiner asks the student reading comprehension questions about the text they just read. Sometimes the answer is straight forward and sometimes not. Guidelines here on how and when to mark correct or incorrect.

Tips for you as an examiner when asking the questions:

  • It is ok to repeat questions if the pupil does not respond.
  • Avoid rephrasing questions.
  • The Examiner must not help the pupil with answering the questions

An answer is considered "Correct" when a student:

  • Self-corrects a previous answer.
  • All grammatical forms of the correct answer are accepted.
  • The student will give more information than you were asking for, and by doing so provides the answers to upcoming questions.

An answer is considered "Incorrect" when a student

    • Provides a response that is not related (or comparable) to the options provided by Lexplore.
    • Answers "I don't know" or "I don't remember".
