How to give assistance with the RAN
During the RAN task, a pupil should only be given help if they do not know the names or sounds of the letters, and are struggling to move on with the task. If needed, you can point to the letters on the screen and say the letters together. You can save such a recording, but you will need to add a comment at the end of the test to advise that the pupil was given assistance saying the letters.
Please do not correct the pupil if they get a letter wrong, let the recording capture that.
It also doesn’t matter if a pupil gives you the name or the sound of the letter, a mixture of each is acceptable. All is captured on the recording for you and your colleagues to review.
