Product Updates - October 2025
This release focuses on making recommendations clearer for teachers, giving pupils a more personal reading experience, and improving the quality behind our book suggestions.
Smarter Book recommendations
We’ve made several improvements to how recommendations appear in the Portal:
-
Fluency information is now also available for emergent readers.
-
You can see when a book was recommended to a pupil.
-
Recommendations are still shown even if the latest assessment was done at another level.
The goal is to give a clearer picture of each pupil’s reading journey and make it easier to choose the next step.
Favorite Books in the Reading App

In the Reading App, pupils can now save their favourite books for later.
When they tap the ❤️ on a book, it’s added to a new shelf 'Books I like' in My Reading.

This makes it easier to find books they enjoyed and keeps their own reading choices in focus.
Improved LIX for Better Book Matching
LIX is a measure of how difficult a text is to read, based mainly on sentence length and word length. It’s one of the key tools we use to match pupils with suitable books.
To strengthen this, we’ve refined how LIX is calculated in Lexplore.
The main change is an improved version of our own calculation. When publishers provide their own complexity information in the book metadata, we also use that as a supporting signal.
Together, this makes book recommendations better reflect the actual reading difficulty pupils experience.
Thank you for using Lexplore and helping us make reading support better for every pupil. 💙
