How to Run a Screening Using E-Assessment

A step-by-step guide to running Lexplore's reading screening directly in the browser - no installation needed.

Lexplore’s screening can now be completed directly in the browser using a webcam and microphone.
This method is called e-assessment, and it replaces the need for additional software or devices.

This guide is for:

  • 🆕 New users unfamiliar with Lexplore or screenings

  • 🔁 Existing customers trying e-assessment for the first time

🔧 1. Before You Start

Make sure you have:

  • A computer with webcam and microphone

  • A quiet, well-lit room

  • The student present and ready

  • A supervising adult to guide the session and mark student answers

⚠️ Important: The assessment must be supervised by an adult. Some of the questions are read aloud by the system, and the adult is responsible for marking the student’s responses as correct or incorrect.

Use the same device throughout the process.

💻 2. Start the Assessment

You can begin in two ways:

Option A – From the Screening Tab:

  1. Go to https://portal.lexplore.com and log in

  2. Click the SCREENING tab

  3. Select a school, then a student

  4. Click TEST SELECTED STUDENT (or double click on the row)

🛠️ 3. First-Time Setup on This Device

If it’s your first time using this computer, the system will walk you through setup:

✅ Screen Size Check

You’ll be asked to verify your screen size using a ruler or credit card.

🎥 Allow Camera & Microphone Access

Grant browser permissions. A mic test may ask you to speak or clap.

⚠️ If you see a yellow camera warning symbol, that’s fine — the screening can still continue.

🧑‍🏫 4. Set Up the Student

Enable Full-Screen Mode

All indicators must turn green before continuing.

🎯 5. Calibrate the Camera
