Tips to Improve Computer Performance for Web Assessment

Simple steps to make sure the assessment runs smoothly

Lexplore’s web assessment uses the computer’s webcam together with eye-tracking.
For best results, the computer needs to maintain a high and stable frame rate during the session.

Here’s what you can do before starting:

Close other video apps like Zoom or Teams – they can block or slow down the camera.

Close extra programs and tabs – keep only the assessment open.

Use good lighting – make sure the student’s face is well lit.

Plug in the laptop and use “Best Performance” mode instead of battery saver.

Restart the computer to start fresh.

Update your browser (latest Safari on Mac, Chrome or Edge).

If performance is too low – try this:

  • Try Chrome or Edge if you are using Safari.

  • Check the camera settings with your IT department. The webcam may be set to a high resolution (for example 1080p), which is unnecessarily demanding for the Web Assessment. Lowering it (for example to 720p) can improve performance.

  • Try on a newer computer if one is available – it helps determine whether the issue is hardware-related.
